The Writing Life

I guess I can officially call myself a full time writer. Isn’t that exciting? While I’m not quite living the dream of writing my own novels all day every day, I’ve got the luxury of writing all day every day. It’s not quite the same thing, but since I’m still a newbie… being able to write at all and get paid for it feels amazing.

So, truthfully, I’m not making that much money at the moment. But I think that’s more my fault than anything. I haven’t had the time (or really put the effort into finding the time) to find a plethora of paid writing gigs. I’ve found a few good ones that have me off at a good start, but you know, five clients is better than two, and ten is better than five. Money is being made and I’m doing what I love, but there’s still a lot more work to put into it than I currently am. Hey, at least now I’ve got the time to dedicate to expanding my business and learning the ins and outs of it.

On a side note, I’d love to do some writing or editing for someone reading my blog. I’ll write pretty much anything at the moment, but I’m kinda dying to work on more novels (be it editing or actual writing), and I’d really like to try my hand at writing for a graphic novel/webcomic.

Yeah, I’m not a pro or anything, but I’m not an idiot, I’m honest, and I always look to provide constructive criticism and give as many pointers as possible. So if you’ve got a project you want to throw at me, feel free to inquire me at kisshuquiche@gmail.com . I already work for pretty cheap, but I’m totally up for working at a discount for anyone who finds me via my blog until the end of summer. If you hit me up by the end of August with whatever your plan is, maybe we can work something out!

Thank you for your support everyone, and have a lovely day. Happy July and get your ass writing!

So Critique Groups Are Nice!

Well, you know, when people actually critique your stuff. I’ve been in my group for maybe two months now, I remember mentioning it briefly on my blog when I joined it.

So anyway, I’ve got nothing against my critique group… but I think I have the right to be annoyed that other people are getting 4+ critiques in the same amount of time as me, where I’m getting 1 or 2. SO! I’ve decided that I’m going to do something about it.

A lot of you who read my blog are writers, aren’t you? How about we get together and critique each others’ work? I’ve been using the site https://www.inkedvoices.com/, which has just come out of beta. There’s currently a discount on annual and monthly memberships.

Codes:

JULY – 25% off annual membership

BETAFRIEND – 40% off a monthly membership for 3 months.

These codes are usable until July 31st, 2014. So if you want to come join me, do it quick!

Since the site is pretty new, lots of features are still being added and polished. But I like the site a lot, and I think it’s worth supporting. If you’re in the market for a critique group, all the better! I just have a few things I’d like everyone whose interested in joining my group to know about.

– Please, please, please, PLEASE only submit Fantasy & Scifi. I can critique anything because I read everything, but the group is specifically for scifi and fantasy. So if that’s not your thing, I’m sorry, but you’ll have to look somewhere else. 😦

– Be willing to submit at least once per month. Length doesn’t matter, but damn do I get annoyed when there’s nothing to critique. Inactive members will be kicked from the group if it comes to it.

– Critique everything, please, especially if you don’t like it. Personally I like harsh criticisms because they’re the most useful, so the point of view of someone who doesn’t like the piece is oh so valuable.

– Be comfortable with critiquing and reading graphic sex and violence. Although be warned, we don’t want to be reading your erotica, so remember… keep it fantasy/scifi.

I think that’s about it. If you’re interested in joining, make an account on the Inked Voices website and join my group! 🙂

You can access the group here: Clicky

All you need to do is request an invite and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

If you guys have any questions I will gladly answer them, and I look forward to writing with anyone who chooses to participate! ❤

Camp NaNo Update #3

So camp NaNo came to and end a couple of days ago. Earlier on in the month I mentioned that my goal was only 35,000 because of my on and off schedule, but I’m incredibly happy to say that I broke 50,000! I believe my end word count was just over 51,000.

I’ve got a treat for some of you who need it. Since I don’t need them, you guys can collect the discounted writer’s programs I got as my rewards. I’m not sure whether they’re one-use or not, but I hope someone finds these useful!

Aeon Timeline – 40% off, expires June 1st 2014

Code: WINNINGTENT

Scrivener – 50% off, expires July 1st 2014

Code: CAMPWINNER14-QN1H66BH

I’d also like to mention that I added a new page to my blog, titled My Reading List & Book Recommendations. It’s not finished yet, but I intend to add a full list of books I’m looking to read (via goodreads), as well as add a bunch more recommendations. Please tell me if you have any suggestions or want to give me any ideas for more books to read.
